Volunteering

Volunteering - helping yourself, help others.

Volunteering provides a way of giving your time and skills to help others and to progress yourself.

You can be a volunteer at university - whether it's running a society, getting involved with student media or becoming a mentor.

You can volunteer in the community - working with disadvantaged people, getting experience in your field of study or helping the environment. You can even volunteer from home with research roles and online mentoring.

Why Volunteer?

Employers are interested in two main qualities... qualifications and experience. At the University of Kent, you can gain both of these. Our volunteering opportunities will give you the experience you need to gain new skills and become more employable.

But don't just take our word for it. Jacqueline graduated in 2009 and was a panel member for the Youth Offending Team whilst studying at Medway. Jacqueline found employment in a managerial position for Sure Start as soon as she graduated, this is what she had to say about finding employment:

"My position required a minimum of 5 years experience working with families and young children. I had only worked with young offenders (mainly teenagers) and their families through my volunteering work for 3 years. The questions that they asked in the interview encouraged me to draw on my volunteering experience, and they were very impressed with the situations I had dealt with. I now know that I would not have been offered my job if it hadn't been for my voluntary experience."
